Top 5 Extinct Animals:- You wish you could see them.

 5White Dolphin

Baiji White Dolphin aka Chinese River Dolphin

These mammals could grow to eight feet long and weigh up to a quarter of a ton, were only to be found in the Yangtze River in China. As China industrialized, the river was used for fishing, transportation and hydroelectricity which had a huge effect on the mammals. Although not officially recorded as extinct, no one has seen a Yangtze River Dolphin since 2002

4. Passenger Pigeon

The Passenger Pigeon also called Wild pigeon(Ectopistes migratorius)

It is an extinct species of pigeon that was endemic to North America, people ate passenger pigeons in huge amounts, but they were also killed because they were perceived as a threat to agriculture. By the 19th century pigeon meat was commercialized as a cheap food for the poor, which resulted in hunting on a massive scale. The Passenger Pigeon died out in the wild by around 1900, with the last known individual dying in captivity in 1914.

3. West African Black Rhinoceros

The West African Black Rhinoceros was found in several countries towards the southeast region of Africa. Measuring 3-3.8 metres long and 1.4-1.7 metres in height, this rhino would have weighed 800-1,300 kg. It had two horns, one measuring 0.5-1.3 metres and the other between 2-55cm. Some believe their horns had medicinal properties – though this had no grounding in scientific fact – which lead to heavy poaching. In the 1930’s preservation action was taken to protect the species, but the numbers continued to decline. The last West African Black Rhino was seen in Cameroon in 2006. It was declared officially extinct in 2011.

2. Woolly Mammoth

 The wooly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius)

Its ancestors migrated out of Africa about 3.5 million years ago, spreading across northern Eurasia and North America. The creature was over 4 metres tall and could weigh over 6 tons. They were covered in fur and their curved tusks could easily be up to 5 metres long! The Woolly Mammoth eventually disappeared 10,000 years ago through a combination of hunting by humans and the disappearance of its habitat through climate change. The last of the isolated woolly mammoth populations is believed to have vanished from Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean around 1700BC.

1.Sabre-toothed Cat

Sabre-toothed Tigers or Sabre-toothed Lions, they existed 55 million to 11,700 years ago. Sabre-tooth Cats were carnivores named for the elongated bladelike canine teeth, which in some species were up to 50 cm long. Quite bear-like in build, they were believed to be excellent hunters and hunted animals such as sloths and mammoths.
It is believed the Sabre-tooth Cat’s extinction may be linked to the decline and extinction of the large herbivores they hunted.

Tardigrades:- Only Animal To Survive in Space

 Tardigrades

Blast them into space, boil them, deep-freeze them, dry them out or crush them : tardigrades will survive it all and come back for more.

Tiny creatures called tardigrades about 1 mm long. In 2007, thousands of tardigrades were attached to a satellite and blasted into space. After the satellite had returned to Earth, scientists found that many of them were survived. Some of the females had even laid eggs in space, and the newly hatched ones were healthy and safe.

Tardigrades can actually
tolerate  ice forming
within their cells

It seems tardigrades can actually tolerate ice forming within their cells. Either they can protect themselves from the damage caused by ice crystals, or they can repair it.

Tardigrades are the toughest animals on Earth. What would it take to kill them all? In the end, there will be tardigrades. If a cataclysm wipes out most of life on the planet — including humans — it's likely that tardigrades will survive.

How Do they Survive Space Radiation?

Space is deadly, and not just because of the vacuum. Outside our protective atmosphere there is killer radiation caused by distant supernovae, our sun, and other sources. Space radiation comes in the form of harmful charged particles that can imbed in the body of animals, ripping apart molecules and damaging DNA faster than it can be repaired.
The reason that tardigrades would have evolved to survive high radiation doses is a mystery, too. However, Miller points to a leading theory: Perhaps tardigrades evolved to be swept up by the wind and survive in the earth's atmosphere

So what does this mean for us? If humans can replicate cryptobiosis in the way tardigrades do, we'd live far longer than the average life expectancy

The Unique Diary (Glaucus Atlanticus)

*Glaucus Atlanticus         ðŸ‘‡

The glaucus atlanticus, aka. the “blue dragon” is a type of stinging sea slug! They actually float upside down on the waves: their blue bellies face up to match the surface, and their silver backs face down to blend in with light shining down. To us, they look like surfing UFO’s!

The silver/grey side of the sea slugs faces downwards, blending in with the sunlight reflecting on the ocean's surface when viewed facing upwards underwater.

Although blue dragons live on the open ocean, they sometimes wash up onto the shore, making for a spectacular - if small - sight against the beige sand. Beach-going humans may be compelled to pick the tiny beauties up for a closer look, but doing so can result in a painful sting.
